WBC-Platelet Recovery Trajectories

Visualizing Inflammatory Recovery Dynamics

Explore how white blood cell (WBC) and platelet (PLT) counts co-evolve during inflammatory recovery. Based on our Nature Communications 2022 paper, this tool visualizes recovery trajectories in 2D WBC-PLT phase-plane.

Tip: Enter paired WBC and platelet values (same number of values in each). Minimum 3 time points required.

📖 About This Method

What it does: This tool visualizes the co-regulatory dynamics between white blood cells (WBC) and platelets (PLT) during inflammatory recovery. These values are plotted against an example 'ideal' recovery trajectory, where PLT count increases linearly, and WBC count decays exponentially. We showed that this model accurately captures healthy recovery dynamics following acute inflammatory events (trauma, ischemia, infection). Significant deviations from this trajectory were associated with drastically increased mortality, across diverse clinical settings.

Note: The reference trajectory is illustrative only. Exact, context-specific reference trajectories can be found in the associated paper.
